Get your motorcycle ready for the aeason
The days are getting longer and temperatures are rising, which means motor enthusiasts are bringing their motorcycles out of hibernation. The excitement to hit the first kilometers is high, but be careful: there’s also a danger here. Especially on those beautiful spring days, the temptation to hit the road without proper control can lead to unpleasant consequences.

Check your motorcycle with the TBDLOG point list
In the Netherlands, we use the handy mnemonic Bravo-A to assess the technical condition of your motorcycle. Which simply translates to TBDLOG:
- B: Tires and fuel
- R: Brakes
- A: Drive and battery
- V: Lights
- O: Oil
- A: General condition
By following these steps, you can systematically check your motorcycle's technical state. Make sure essentials such as chain tension, lighting (including turn signals), and the condition of your tires are all in order. A well-maintained bike is crucial for a safe ride.

Mindset when riding
In addition to technical preparation, it’s also important to get your mindset right. Do you feel the excitement even before you mount your bike? Even before you’ve swung your leg over your motorcycle, the adrenaline has been working overtime. The first few meters can feel awkward after a few months of not riding. It’s completely normal to need some time to adjust after a long winter break.

Tips to optimize your preparation:
- Take your time: The first rides are about getting back into the groove. Don’t put pressure on yourself to perform immediately.
- Practice at a quiet location: Head to a calm parking area to refresh your skills.
- Breathe and relax: Take a few deep breaths and ride slower than you normally would to get back into your rhythm. This helps you stay alert to other road users who need to readjust to seeing motorcyclists again.
- Be cautious with your tires: Remember that in spring, it can take longer for your tires to warm up. The roads and underlying surfaces may still be cold.
Enjoy Riding
The most important thing is to enjoy riding! It’s a great way to provide mental support and reduce stress. For many people, including myself, riding feels like a mental reset that recharges your batteries. Seek that relaxation on the road and enjoy this wonderful hobby!
